ISLAMABAD: The first meeting regarding the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) committee would be held on Monday (today) to review the progress on the plan.
The committee meeting would be chaired by Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security Nasser Khan Janjua and would focus on issues pertaining to terrorism such as the performance of special courts, hanging of terrorists, activities of National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and whether or not economic sanctions have been placed on terrorist groups.
Sources disclosed that the meeting would also likely focus on the issue of registration of madrassas and whether the militant groups who had resurfaced had been dealt with. FATA reforms and the formation of the anti-terrorism force are also expected to come under discussion during the high-level meeting.
The committee would also take stock of the situation concerning Afghan immigrants’ issue, militancy in Punjab, sectarian terrorism and Karachi operation. During the meeting, the ministry of interior, ministry of information technology, ministry of finance, ministry of religious affairs, ministry of law, FATA secretariat, PTA, ministry of information and broadcasting as well as provincial governments will provide detailed briefings.
During the meeting, military intelligence institutions, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and FATA secretariat officials would also apprise the committee regarding their performances so far. Briefings would also be conducted on issues such as banning the use of internet for militant groups, news pertaining to militants in the media and the criminal justice system.
