ISLAMABAD: Expressing deep displeasure over leaking videos of under-trail prisoners, Minister for Interior Affairs Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday informed the National Assembly that the federal government was ready to provide full support to investigate the matter.
Speaking in the House, he said an inquiry into video leak case of Khalid Shamim, who remained in Adalia Jail for some time, was in progress and would be finalised soon. Assuring full support to the Sindh government to probe the recent video leaks of under trail prisoners, he said such activities should be curbed as they affected judicial proceedings and promoted media trials.
He said that three videos of prisoners were leaked in the recent past. It was the responsibility of provinces to hold inquiry into the matter. The first such case was reported in a Balochistan jail and that the provincial government was responsible to investigate it, he added. The Ministry of Interior Affairs would provide all support to the Sindh government to investigate the video leaks, he said.
The Interior Ministry had written a letter to the Sindh government offering support in that regard and the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) had also been asked to play its role. He said that instead of political point scoring, “we must come together and devise a way forward to curb such incidents.”
Federal Minister for Finance Senator Ishaq Dar said that the members during speeches talked about the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and the National Finance Commission (NFC) award and he had taken notes. He said that he would respond to all points raised by the members during the cut motions speeches.
